Making your own popcorn in the microwave is a snap, tastes better, costs less, and doesn’t make the mess stovetop variations can. Plus, you can flavor your popcorn any way you like it! This Maple Pecan version is sweet, salty, and perfect for the holidays!

Yield: 8 Cups popcorn (Serving Size 1-1/2 cups)

Ingredients

  • 1/2 Cup raw popcorn kernels
  • 1/2 Tbsp Canola oil
  • Dash Salt/pepper
  • 6 Tbsp unsalted butter
  • 6 Tbsp Maple Syrup
  • 2 Cups pecans, lightly crushed

Directions:

  1. Place kernels, oil, salt and pepper in a brown paper bag and shake to combine. Place in microwave and heat over high heat for 5-8 minutes or until there are four seconds between pops. Carefully remove bag from microwave and place popcorn in a large bowl.
  2. In a sauce plan melt butter over medium heat and stir until butter turns a light brown, stirring often (about 3 minutes).
  3. Add the maple syrup to butter mixture stirring to combine.
  4. Add the pecans and stir until a caramel forms, about four minutes. Season to taste with salt.
  5. Gradually toss caramel mixture with popcorn, mixing well at each incremental addition.
